Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - Fire fighters saved a bedridden woman through a window in an apartment fire in Dortmund.

Until the rescue workers were on site, the woman was looked after by a police officer at the window of the ground floor apartment on Monday, the fire brigade announced on Tuesday.

Previously, relatives of the house residents had already brought the bedridden woman's husband to safety from the flames.

The fire brigade penetrated into the bedroom wearing a breathing apparatus, laid the woman on a stretcher and carried her outside through a window.

She was then taken to the hospital.

During the extinguishing work, the emergency services also found an unconscious cat, which they ventilated with oxygen, it was also said.

The cat was taken to a veterinary clinic in Recklinghausen.

According to the information, the apartment in the two-family house is no longer habitable because of the considerable fire damage.
