In Germany, the SPD health expert Lauterbach calls for a “last hard lockdown” in order to get the incidence values under control again. One country that has been effectively using lockdowns for months is Australia. With short but extremely strict curfews, the island nation has coped with Covid-19 in the past few months. Australia has only around 29,000 infections and just over 900 deaths. The strategy has allowed the island nation to largely return to normal: the children go to school, bars, restaurants and cafes are well attended, the economy is back on its feet.
