Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg is implementing the new precautionary age limit for the Astrazeneca vaccine from this Wednesday.

As a rule, the preparation should only be used for people aged 60 and over, the federal and state health ministers decided on Tuesday evening.

Under 60-year-olds should be able to continue to be vaccinated with it «at the discretion of the doctor and in the case of an individual risk analysis after careful information.

Baden-Württemberg Health Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) said the vaccination campaign was going on and would be adjusted accordingly.

The reason for the restriction at Astrazeneca are cases of blood clots (thromboses) in cerebral veins.

Astrazeneca vaccinations only started again in mid-March after a vaccination break of a few days and new checks.

The Ministry of Health in Stuttgart stated that the majority of those currently eligible for vaccination in Baden-Württemberg are over 60 years old.

"So you are not affected by the restriction, the vaccination of the high-priority groups continues," said the statement on Tuesday evening.

Young people are also offered the opportunity to be vaccinated with Astrazeneca, but only under the new conditions and risk analysis.

For people who have already booked an appointment for a vaccination with Astrazeneca, but no longer want or can no longer keep it, there is the following solution: “In the centers where a rebooking to another vaccine is possible, a rebooking should be made directly can be done on site.

In this case, a suitable second appointment should be arranged on site.

No vaccinated citizen should leave the vaccination center without a second appointment. "

The ministry did not want to rule out that the transfer to another vaccine would not work.

In that case, you should be put on a waiting list.

«The vaccination centers as well as the employees of the registration systems were informed of the new procedure that evening.

Unfortunately, it cannot be ruled out that there will be irregularities at the beginning of the changeover. "

According to the decision, younger people under 60 who have already received the first dose of Astrazeneca have two options: They can also get the second vaccination from Astrazeneca, after consulting their doctor, with “thorough information” and “individual risk analysis”.

Second option: Those affected wait for a recommendation from the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) for a second vaccination, which is expected to be submitted by the end of April.

According to Stiko, the first second vaccinations with Astrazeneca are planned for the beginning of May after the recommended waiting period of twelve weeks and the start of vaccination of the vaccine in February.

According to the health ministers, the commission is examining whether further vaccination with another vaccine is a possible option.
