The recent severe sandstorm in the Gobi Province of Mongolia caused the death of 160,000 livestock

Xinhua News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, March 29 (Reporter Asgang Suriya) Mongolian Central Government officials of Gobi Province said on the 29th that the strong sandstorms that the province has encountered since mid-March have caused heavy losses. About 160,000 heads (only) of livestock died in the province, and about 230,000 heads (only) of livestock were still unaccounted for.

The director of the General Office of the Central Gobi Provincial Government, Doljibat, reported through the Mongolian National Public Television Station that the province encountered a strong sandstorm on March 14 and the maximum wind speed in some areas reached 40 meters per second.

At that time, visibility in most areas was low, which caused great difficulties for emergency departments to find missing persons and other tasks.

According to Dolgibart, 468 people in the province were lost in the strong sandstorm, and 9 of them died unfortunately.

Among the more than 3.7 million heads of livestock in the province, about 2.1 million heads were scattered and lost; power and water cuts occurred in many places, and more than 100 yurts were damaged.

Some parts of Mongolia suffered strong sandstorms and snowstorms from March 13 to 14, which killed 10 people and damaged many yurts, houses and fences.

On the 27th, strong sandstorms and snowstorms hit Mongolia again, causing various levels of property damage to various places. Some yurts were damaged and hundreds of livestock were lost or died.

Mongolian meteorological experts said that since the beginning of the spring this year, the frequency and intensity of sandstorms in the country have exceeded previous years.

Ecological experts worry that if sandstorms occur frequently, they may cause more damage and form a vicious circle.
