Cologne (dpa) - The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach has called for a “last hard lockdown” to combat the Covid 19 pandemic in view of the rapidly increasing incidence figures in Germany.

"We can't let it go like that," said Lauterbach on West German radio.

Otherwise, the incidence numbers would rise to over 200 in a few weeks.

On the one hand, the SPD politician pleaded for an obligation to work from home and for regular corona tests in companies.

He also spoke out in favor of a temporary curfew in the evening.

The mobile phone movement data showed that many people still meet privately in the evening.

That is understandable, but it must be limited for a while.

The health politician criticized the inconsistent approach of the countries and the efforts observed in many places to allow easing with more tests.

“The truth is, we first have to really bring control into what is happening.

We need something that is now inhibiting exponential growth and that cannot be done with relaxation. "

It is a mistake to believe tests are the ideal way to get the increase in incidence under control.

"You can't get rid of that by testing alone."
