Hanover (dpa / lni) - As a consequence of the mask affair in the Bundestag, the Lower Saxony SPD is also calling for stricter rules in the Landtag for dealing with additional income.

"We need more openness on this point towards the population, who are ultimately our employer," said Secretary General Hanna Naber of the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" (Monday).

"Income from secondary activities must not only be displayed in euros and cents to the President of the State Parliament, but in future also be published on their own homepage, for example."

So far, the income has only been published in a tiered system: Level 1 stands for 1,000 to 3,500 euros per month, level 10 for more than 250,000 euros per month.

Naber suggested halving the notification requirement to 500 euros per month and 5000 euros per year.

In addition, company holdings should be displayed from 5 percent instead of 25 percent of the voting rights.

"The central question is whether the mandate is the focus of the work or a possible secondary activity."

Shortly after Easter, the SPD state executive is to discuss the idea.

The parliamentary group could then be tasked with coordinating the concept with the other groups.

An amendment to the law on representatives would have to be decided by the state parliament.
