Unknown tore out the gate to the grave of the actor Jan Fedder.

It had been put in the bushes, said a spokesman for the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg on Monday.

A cemetery supervisor discovered the damage in the morning.

"This is vandalism and happens very rarely," said the spokesman.

When exactly the perpetrator or perpetrators destroyed the grave fence was initially unclear.

Cemetery workers alerted the police.

Widow Marion Fedder, who also owns the gate, would have to file a complaint.

She had the fence erected after fans repeatedly ran to her husband's grave to put flowers.

“We cannot judge whether the perpetrator was on the grave.

I can't explain why someone should do that either, ”the cemetery spokesman continued.

Further damage was initially not discovered.

It's not the first time the archway has been damaged.

Already in October of last year strangers had tampered with him and the gate.

As a police officer Dirk Matthies, Jan Fedder had ensured law and order in the Hamburg neighborhood for decades in the ARD early evening series "Großstadtrevier".

He died on December 30, 2019 at the age of 64.
