The current short-term housing has room for 90 people and is for addicts and the homeless, including people who have just been released from a prison and do not yet have anywhere to live.

It was around 6.40 pm on March 3 that one of the residents, a man in his 20s, attacked a person who had entered the accommodation earlier the same day.

The knife attack took place just outside the house.

The stabbed man's life could not be saved, and the perpetrator was arrested on the spot.

The social administration in southwest Gothenburg writes in a report to IVO that a special collaboration group has been set up to increase security.

Reduced security

A person tells SVT Nyheter Väst that before the murder, security was reduced by removing a security guard at night, and that at the time of the murder there was only a security guard on site.

This is confirmed by Margita Johansson, unit manager at the Department of Housing and Homelessness.

- Yes, we had to reduce in these financially gloomy times.

After the murder, the accommodation again has two security guards around the clock.

Limited control

SVT Nyhets Väst's informant also says that the security guard was allowed to look in the residents' bags when they got there, but was not allowed to carry out a body search.

- Then it is easy to bring a knife, screwdriver or other weapon, he states.

Margita Johansson agrees with the criticism.

- But it is the law of control there.

It is housing that is based on the Social Services Act and is voluntary.

Don must live there temporarily to be able to move on to other accommodation.

But it is a problem that many who live in addiction are equipped with a knife.

You really have to start from that.

But can you not have it as a condition for living there that you agree to submit to visitation?

That you write an agreement about it?

- Yes, it is true that you can make an agreement with the residents, and then we can go in with a little stricter control and look for weapons.

This is something we have discussed, says Margita Johansson and continues:

- We will see how IVO also reacts to this in relation to our assignment.

Plus that everything must harmonize with the Social Services Act.

But I do not think that IVO would oppose such a rule.
