Hamburg (dpa / lno) - 71 Hamburg MPs from the SPD, Greens, CDU and Left Party are calling for the Turkish government to return to the Istanbul Convention.
"We (members of the Hamburg citizenship) stand by the side of the women's movement in Turkey in solidarity," said a joint statement that was distributed on Monday.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also calls for the suspension of the proceedings against the pro-Kurdish opposition party HDP "and the release of those imprisoned for political reasons".
"As the undersigned, we stand on the side of the democratic forces in Turkey."
Just over a week ago, Erdogan declared Turkey's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention for the Protection of Women by decree and thus aroused outrage around the world.
The General Prosecutor's Office in Ankara also filed a ban against the pro-Kurdish opposition party HDP.
