Potsdam (dpa / bb) - After her husband is said to have stabbed her and pushed her head under water in a pond, a woman died.

The trial against the 65-year-old at the Potsdam Regional Court began on Monday.

The man was charged with murder, said court spokesman Sascha Beck.

The act occurred in May last year.

The indictment was read out on the first day of the trial (21 Ks 10/20, 486 Js 19014/20).

The 65-year-old initially only provided personal information and did not have to comment on the allegations, said Beck.

According to the indictment, the woman wanted to separate from her partner and had moved with her two children from the common house to a holiday apartment in Werder.

She was there with the children and a friend on the day the husband showed up.

According to the indictment, he threatened her with a blank gun.

The woman fled the apartment and slipped into a pond on the property, according to the prosecution.

The defendant is said to have attacked her with a knife and stabbed her up to four times.

Among other things, the lungs were critically injured.

In addition, the defendant is said to have pushed his victim with his head under water until he was sure that his wife was dead, it said.

When the son tried to help his mother, the father shot him in the face with a blank gun.

The 65-year-old is said to have threatened another witness, who also wanted to help the woman, with a knife and a blank gun, according to the indictment.

After the fact, the accused fled according to the information in his car and crashed into a wall.

He suffered serious injuries and was treated in the detention hospital.

A total of ten days of negotiations were scheduled.

The next day of the trial is April 12th, when the first witnesses will be heard, including the son.
