Trier (dpa / lrs) - If a student is expelled from a school due to their own misconduct, the municipality does not have to pay for the cost of the trip to a school further away.

As the administrative court in Trier announced on Monday, the judges agreed with the opinion of the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm, which did not want to cover the transport costs for a pupil because the pupil had "to represent the reasons for his exclusion himself".

The student's parents had sued.

According to the court, the student attended a secondary school plus in Bitburg until September 2019.

The therefore permanently excluded him from the visit due to misconduct.

The responsible school supervisory authority, the Supervision and Service Directorate (ADD), then sent the pupil to another secondary school in the district, to which the journey was longer.

In principle, according to the school law, transport costs to the school that is closest to the place of residence could be covered if the way to school is longer than four kilometers, it said.

The way to the school from which the student had flown was shorter.
