March 29, 2021 The leaders of the Democratic Party and the League, Enrico Letta and Matteo Salvini, discuss at a distance, on the issues of the pandemic and Europe, speaking at the presentation of the ISPI 2021 Report "The world at the time of Covid. Europe?".

Letta: the next generation is a permanent tool against US-China clash

Appeal of the Secretary of the Democratic Party Enrico Letta to the leader of the Lega Matteo Salvini to support the Draghi government, "with two objectives: to win the battle to make the Next Generation EU permanent and change the pact of stability, for which European alliances are needed, transforming it into a pact of social and environmental sustainability. If we can, we will make Italy safe in the next twenty years ".

Salvini: via labels on the EU, pragmatic with Draghi

"If the pandemic allows us to focus on big issues, that's fine: Letta greets me as a pro-European, I salute Letta as a sovereignist. If we remove the labels from our jacket we can collaborate".

Lega leader Matteo Salvini said this when speaking at the presentation of the ISPI Annual Report, responding to the appeal of the secretary of the Democratic Party Letta to support Draghi in the reform of the EU.

"If the pandemic teaches us to focus on major issues, it is a step forward; sovereignty and Europeanism can go together, conjugated by pragmatism. That is Draghi".

According to the leader of the League, "Europe must focus on some major issues: foreign policy, defense, health, management of flows. If, on the other hand, it deals with the management of the Sabaudia beach, with the Bolkenstein directive, there is no far away. Europe is made up of 27 countries, we leave room for 27 realities, if we compress them we don't go very far ".

"Being part of such a large government forces us to emphasize the points of contact, rather than the things that distinguish us, but I think no one is entitled to give licenses to democracy" added Salvini, after the leader of the Democratic Party, Enrico Letta , in his speech, he complimented the evolution of the League in a pro-European sense, hoping that the Northern League will come closer to the EPP.

"The Union was born on false grounds, if we want to ignore it and say that the hope of the world is that the League will join the European People's Party, it is not doing a good service, if democracy licenses are to be given to the American electorate , to the Hungarian premier, to the Polish premier, then this is very problematic ", concluded Salvini.
