We know a little more about the brawl that occurred between two groups of young people on Saturday afternoon on the town hall square in Rennes.

According to the first elements of the investigation, about fifteen protagonists were involved in the fight which was very violent with stabbing and hammering which were carried.

"It could result from a rivalry between districts (Villejean-Beauregard / La Bellangerais-Patton) without the precise reason for the dispute being clearly established for the time being," indicates the Rennes public prosecutor.

According to a police source interviewed Sunday, the brawl would have broken out fortuitously, one of the young people having recognized another individual with whom he would have an old dispute.

The victim now out of danger

Four young people between the ages of 14 and 18 were injured in the fight.

The youngest was seriously injured in the thorax, probably by a knife.

Still hospitalized, his vital prognosis is no longer engaged.

The other three were released from the hospital on Saturday evening.

Quickly on the spot, the police arrested three young people aged 16 to 17 who were placed in police custody.

"They admit having participated in this brawl but deny having stabbed", indicates a police source.

They were still there that Monday morning.

On Sunday, two other young people aged 15 and 18 were also taken into police custody.

A judicial information will be opened during the day "in order to determine the precise circumstances of the facts and to establish the criminal responsibilities of each other", underlines the prosecutor.
