Berlin (dpa / bb) - Similar to after the financial crisis, more young people from Europe could again be drawn to Berlin as a result of the corona pandemic.

In the particularly affected countries, the labor markets are often very inflexible, so that youth unemployment there could rise again, according to the new real estate market report by the Investitionsbank Berlin.

That should encourage the emigration of young workers to Germany.

"Berlin will particularly benefit from this, where well-trained specialists, for example in the booming digital economy, are still being sought."

Most recently, the move to Berlin had come to a standstill.

According to the report, the corona crisis is only a brief interruption in the capital's economic catch-up process.

"This would also keep the housing market under pressure," the authors conclude.

At the same time, however, they find that many Berliners continue to move to Brandenburg.

The corona crisis is accelerating this trend.

Because people are increasingly working at home, more living space is required.
