Planica (dpa) - Karl Geiger was initially not feeling exhausted after the intense and successful season.

Full of energy and with a smile on his face, the man from Oberstdorf was happy about his last coup in a memorable winter.

"It was an unbelievable weekend," said the 28-year-old after his individual victory in ski flying in Planica.

"It is unbelievable that I can even win the ball for the overall ski flying World Cup."

With a view to a little relaxed time without travel stress at home, Geiger also said: "Now I'm looking forward to a few quieter days."

The final days of winter in Slovenia offered the Allgäu again sporting successes in a row.

Geiger won ahead of Ryoyu Kobayashi from Japan on Friday.

This was followed by wind chaos on Saturday and the decision of the jury to hold the team competition on Sunday morning in one round directly before the individual.

Geiger won with his buddy Markus Eisenbichler, Pius Paschke and Constantin Schmid - for the first time in 21 years a German quartet won a World Cup team ski flying.

The «valley of the ski jumps» in Slovenia finally became a place of triumph for Geiger.

The Bachelor of Engineering had already been crowned gold by the gigantic facility at the Flight World Championships in December and won silver in the team.

Award ceremonies in front of the splendid backdrop in Slovenia are increasingly becoming a routine that he loves to complete.

"Now he is finally out of his small hill ski jumping," said national coach Stefan Horngacher and thought of Geiger's former reputation as an expert for smaller jumping facilities.

“This year, Planica was a really great place for us with the World Cup and this end,” said team manager Horst Hüttel.

In view of the difficult circumstances with many competitions under Corona conditions, the 52-year-old said: "Four months after the start of this exhausting season, we are happy to put a lid on it and regenerate a bit."

Top jumper Geiger was already thinking about the start of the summer training, "because after the season is before the season".

Horngacher sees it similarly: "The boys are fit," said the Austrian immediately after Geiger's victory.

"We can start training again in a week."

The Austrian stated soberly: "For next year we have to see that we are right at the front again."
