Hanover (dpa / lni) - Because of the corona-related contact restrictions, the ADAC expects empty streets at Easter.

The pandemic provides a second time for quiet Easter days on the highways in Lower Saxony, the ADAC announced on Monday.

Although construction was going on and trucks continued to transport goods, long traffic jams were not to be expected.

Before Corona, Maundy Thursday was one of the busiest days of the year - with lots of excursion and holiday traffic at Easter.

But the lockdown swept the highways almost empty last year, it was said.

On Easter weekend 2020 there were only 33 traffic jams with a total length of 21 kilometers on the motorways in Lower Saxony.

In 2019 there were 717 traffic jams between Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday with a total of 2026 kilometers.
