Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - The Frankfurt theater scene has welcomed the application of the city of Frankfurt as a corona model region in the state of Hesse.

The houses are ready to begin the necessary preliminary planning immediately, said Matthias Pees, board member of the Frankfurt Theater Alliance, in Frankfurt on Monday.

According to Pees, the model region is a constructive proposal that could bring planning security to the theaters.

The theaters in Hessen have been closed since November due to the increasing corona infections.

According to a survey of several theater associations among over 90 Hessian theater groups, ensembles and houses, 60 fully rehearsed productions have been waiting for the premiere since the beginning of the lockdown, and 39 others are currently rehearsing.

135 pieces have already been performed online.

"There is a lot going on in the scene," said Jan Deck, board member of the national association for professional freelance performers (laPROF).

In order to stabilize this development, laPROF, the Frankfurter Theaterallianz and other theater professionals demanded that the city's funding for independent theaters be increased by 800,000 euros in the medium term.

In addition, it was proposed to set up a working group to mediate between state and local politicians and cultural workers and, for example, to develop hygiene concepts.

In the Corona model regions, people with a negative rapid test result would be able to visit cultural institutions while observing the requirement to keep a distance and mask.

In addition to Frankfurt, other cities and districts have applied to the State of Hesse as a model region.

The state government is expected to announce a decision at the beginning of the week.
