Hamburg (dpa) - In the German meat industry, signs are pointing to strike after stalled collective bargaining.

As the food-pleasure-restaurants union (NGG) announced on Monday evening, the third round of collective bargaining in Hamburg has been "interrupted without any result and without a new negotiation date being agreed".

For the third time in a row, the employers' side had not made a serious offer, criticized NGG's vice-chairman, Freddy Adjan, following the several hours of negotiations.

“The receipt will be in the next few weeks.

We will now inform the employees in the factories about the permanent blockade of employers and call for strikes. "

Now the mood in the factories will heat up even more.

There was initially no statement from the employer.

The union started talks with the demand for a three-tier minimum wage agreement for around 160,000 employees in the industry.

The minimum wage should therefore start at 12.50 euros.

After a short training period, it should increase to 14 euros per hour, skilled workers should receive 17 euros per hour.

The employers rejected this suggestion as "unrealistic and threatening the existence of the company".

The offer submitted by employers on Monday only provided for a minimum wage of 10.50 euros per hour from July 1, 2021, criticized Adjan.

For “employers who generate millions in sales year after year”, such an offer is “pure mockery”.

For the time being, there is no longer a Germany-wide collective agreement with the NGG.

"I'm not sure whether our negotiating partners recognize the scope of today's blockade," said the unionist.

"Companies that use temporary work from April 1st are committing an administrative offense that can be punished with up to 500,000 euros."
