Halle (dpa / sa) - At the end of the month, the first asparagus could be harvested this year in Saxony-Anhalt and thus served for Easter.

"I expect smaller quantities as early as Easter," said Jürgen Schulze, managing director of the Association of East German Asparagus and Soft Fruit Growers (Vosba) on Monday.

After Easter, the asparagus season will probably start properly.

Schulze hopes for plenty of sunshine.

"The rays of the sun warm the soil and make the asparagus grow faster," he explained.
