Erfurt (dpa / th) - The Ministry of the Environment has received 20 applications for the “Special Insect Protection Fund”, which was set up in 2021.

They would now be assessed in the ministry, announced on Monday.

A selection will be made by mid-April.

The ideas submitted on insect protection include, among other things, natural areas that are particularly worthy of protection, such as mountain meadows or orchards.

The funding priorities included innovative measures for the protection of insects that occur in Thuringia, are of European importance or are threatened with extinction - such as the butterfly species mountain witch, scabiosa butterfly and blue butterfly.

The state launched the special fund for insect protection, worth around 1.75 million euros, in February for the year 2021.

The money is intended to support insect protection projects in the agricultural landscape.

The funds come partly from the federal government, the state share is according to the information at 40 percent.

Funding is aimed primarily at non-profit clubs and associations.

However, municipalities and other land managers could also submit applications.

How high the proportion of applicants from the respective areas was initially remained unclear.
