Thailand’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Volau said on March 26 that Thailand produces an average of 2 million tons of plastic waste each year, and only 500,000 tons are recycled and reused. Most of the remaining 1.5 million tons are disposable plastic products, including 9.75 billion. Plastic cups and 5 billion plastic straws.

The consumption of various types of beverages in Thailand is very large, and this type of garbage is still increasing. Among them, only disposable plastic straws have caused great damage to the environment.

People use plastic straws that take hundreds of years to degrade just for drinking water. After plastic straws are poured into the sea, many marine animals will accidentally eat them and threaten their lives. Plastic waste pollution also has a serious impact on human health.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is vigorously promoting environmentally friendly coffee shop projects across the country, prompting businesses and consumers to change sales and consumption behaviors, reducing the use of disposable plastic products, and plans to start banning plastic straws in 2022.
