Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Despite the Corona lockdown, the catering industry in Brandenburg is putting hope in the planned model projects for easing the situation in districts or cities.

"For us it is a way to test how it works under pandemic conditions," said the managing director of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) Brandenburg, Olaf Lücke, the German Press Agency in Potsdam.

The prerequisite for this is a reasonable number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week.

This is a viable option that is definitely better than “just closing up,” said Lücke.

Since November 2nd, restaurants and cafés in Brandenburg have been closed due to the Corona crisis - except for delivery or pick-up service.

The federal government and the federal states agreed that temporary model projects with protective measures and a corona test concept should be possible in the federal states and in individual regions in order to open up areas such as retail and gastronomy further or at all.

The city of Potsdam has been allowing shopping with an appointment and negative test since Saturday and wants to become a model municipality.

Other municipalities also want to apply as a model project.

The Brandenburg cabinet wants to facilitate such relaxation through an expected six model projects.

The Dehoga Brandenburg sees several signs in the regional opening.

"It is a signal to the industry: Something is going on here," said the managing director.

The signal also goes to the guests that there is a chance to get out of the loop if they adhere to the requirements.

"The Saarland is showing the way," said Lücke.

From April 6th, cinemas, fitness studios and outdoor catering should be open again in Saarland - but only with the daily negative Corona quick test.

The Brandenburg restaurants are looking forward to April 12th, when the federal and state governments meet again.

"There have to be very clear offers - otherwise I see the industry as black," said Lücke.
