Finsterwalde (dpa / bb) - A week before Easter, unknown thieves stole four rabbits from the zoo in Finsterwalde (Elbe-Elster).

A keeper noticed on Sunday morning that the rabbit and three young animals were missing from the family of nine, as a local police spokesman said.

One cub was found dead.

After initial investigations, the thieves climbed the zoo's fence and broke into the rabbit enclosure.

So far, there is no trace of the perpetrators, the investigation is ongoing.

With around 250 animals from over 55 species and races, the zoo is the largest in the southern Elbe-Elster district.

In addition to hares, it is also home to kangaroos, marmosets and pot-bellied pigs.
