Kassel (dpa / lhe) - A man was killed in a fire in an apartment building in Kassel.
The fire broke out on the first floor early Saturday morning, and the fire brigade found the man's body there.
Another eight people could be rescued from the five-story building, as the fire department announced.
Turntable ladders were also used because the escape route was blocked by fire smoke for several residents.
A total of 50 firefighters and rescue workers were on duty.
The cause of the fire, the identity of the deceased and the exact cause of death were initially unclear.
The police started an investigation.
According to estimates by the fire brigade, property damage is in the upper five-digit range.
