Wetzlar (dpa / lhe) - The Lord Mayor of Wetzlar, Manfred Wagner (SPD), has been clearly confirmed in his office.

In the runoff election on Sunday, the 61-year-old won 59.38 percent of the vote.

CDU challenger Michael Hundertmark missed the move into the town hall of the central Hessian city on the Lahn.

For Wagner it is the second term in office.

Almost 39,700 citizens were called to vote; the turnout was 31.86 percent.

In the first ballot two weeks ago, a total of seven candidates ran.

Wagner got 49.4 percent of the vote, the 33-year-old Hundertmark 25.9 percent.

The other five candidates were eliminated.
