Apolda / Bad Sulza (dpa / th) - A beagle that got lost during an examination for hunting dogs has caused a major police operation in Thuringia.

According to the police on Sunday, the dog was taken into their car by two women while chasing a rabbit near Bad Sulza (Weimarer Land district) on Saturday.

Because the dog was wearing a GPS tracker, it could be located.

Several police stations started the search for him.

The tracker stated that the car was traveling on the A4 and A71 and the B176.

After 115 kilometers, the police stopped the car in Bachra (Sömmerda district) and took the undamaged dog into their care.

The 36-year-old driver and her 21-year-old companion from the Burgenland district stated that they had taken the dog with them to take him to an animal shelter, said a police spokesman.

But this seemed implausible.

The women are being investigated for misappropriation.
