Planica (dpa / lby) - Karl Geiger from Oberstdorf and Siegsdorf's Markus Eisenbichler fell around their necks smiling, national coach Stefan Horngacher was happy about the positive health prognoses for the Norwegian after the “mad shock” about Daniel André Tande's fall.

With a terrific flight show and Geiger's victory, the ski jumpers ended a turbulent final weekend in a very special winter.

"It was a great season for both of us, we are very happy," said Geiger arm in arm with his buddy Eisenbichler, who finished third in Planica despite a damaged knee.

Before that, he had done his part in pain to the first German team victory in the Ski Flying World Cup in 21 years.

The entire weekend was overshadowed by Tande's bad fall.

The 27-year-old hit the slope violently on Thursday and had to be put into an artificial coma.

"The situation with Daniel is stable," explained the team doctor of the Norwegian ski jumper, Guri Ranum Ekås.

The wake-up process started on Saturday, but it is a time-consuming process, the Norwegian Ski Association announced on Sunday.

The 2018 team Olympic champion has so far been diagnosed with a broken collarbone and a slight puncture of the lungs.

"That was a maddening shock for the whole ski jumping family," said Horngacher about Tande's accident.

"We wish him all the best and hope that he'll be back next season."

With regard to the athletic performance of his athletes in Slovenia, he spoke of a "great graduation."

Geiger flew 231 and 232.5 meters in the individual on Sunday.

He relegated Ryoyu Kobayashi to second place.

In his own overall flight ranking, he drew on points with the previously leading Japanese and passed him in the ranking.

As a team with Pius Paschke and Constantin Schmid, Geiger and Eisenbichler had already demonstrated their class on the huge facility.

"I am very happy that we won the team," said Eisenbichler.

The competition was canceled the day before due to strong winds and was made up for in one round directly before the individual.

“I'm just happy that it's over now and that it went so well,” said “Eisei” after his last jump of the 2020/21 season.

The World Cup winter offered numerous highlights, but also defeats, for the German team.

Geiger was primarily responsible for the big victories.

The 28-year-old was not permanently disrupted by a corona infection.

Gold at the Ski Flying World Championships and four medals at the home World Championships in the Allgäu was the home of the Bachelor of Engineering.

At the Four Hills Tournament he made a mistake in Innsbruck and thus gave up all chances for the first tour victory since Sven Hannawald in 2002.

His roommate in non-Corona times also caused a sensation.

Eisenbichler celebrated two World Cup victories in the individual, took second place in the overall classification behind the outstanding Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud and was able to look forward to World Cup gold in the team and mixed team.

In the usual self-confident manner, the Siegsdorf resident said: "It was a really strong season for me."

Despite the packed winter, Horngacher did not promise his athletes an extended vacation.

"The boys are fit," said the Austrian.

"We can start training again in a week."
