Steinhagen (AP) - Former German top sprinter Marc Blume fears for the life of his little daughter Feelia.

Because the five-year-old is suffering from blood cancer, the 47-year-old former athlete is urgently looking for stem cell donors.

«With luck there are five to seven hits.

Then you have to see whether they can actually donate, "said the former European indoor champion in an interview with" Bild am Sonntag ".

The German Athletics Association helps through posts, there is contact with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the big daughter is there with calls on social networks.

Because of the leukemia of the five-year-old daughter, the situation for the family is "very difficult, also financially," said Blume.

He works in a sports market in a shopping center and is on short-time work due to Corona.

In addition, there would be enormous costs, among other things for the many trips to the clinic, which is 75 minutes away from Steinhagen.

The blood values of the five-year-olds would be checked three to five times a week.

"If they get worse, she will be treated as an inpatient for a few days," said Blume.

In addition, the house has to be rebuilt.

"It has to be sterile, curtains, carpets, potted plants have to go out," said the worried father.

Feelia needs a new toothbrush every day and is only allowed to wear disposable underwear.

"She also needs completely new clothes that can be sterilized at 60 degrees."

The family gets a lot of support in Steinhagen, many would postpone their own problems because of Corona.

"We're really deeply moved by that," said Blume.
