Paris (dpa) - In France, people have protested in numerous cities for a more courageous climate policy.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, 44,000 people took part in the demonstrations, in Paris alone it was said to have been 12,000.

According to their own information, the organizers had registered almost 190 meetings nationwide.

As the French news agency AFP reported, they gave the number of demonstrators at 110,000.

The organizers accuse the government of not advancing ambitiously enough in the fight against climate change and are calling for a “real climate law”.

On Monday, the French National Assembly wants to deal with the planned climate law.

The government launched it in early February.

Among other things, the law prohibits certain short-haul flights in France if the journey time by train does not exceed two and a half hours.

It should also regulate the legal basis for a ban on heated outdoor terraces, for example in restaurants, better insulation of buildings or further restrictions on environmentally harmful cars in cities.

There has already been plenty of criticism of the project.

An expert advice on climate complained that measures should only be applied selectively and that the planned schedule does not allow catching up the delay in reducing emissions.

Organizations had also criticized the fact that incentives were set if government intervention was necessary.

A convention made up of randomly selected citizens who had proposed solutions to climate issues was also disappointed.
