India recorded the highest daily death toll in Corona since mid-October, while new infections in Brazil approached 86,000.

The Indian Ministry of Health said today, Sunday, that the country recorded 62,714 injuries during the past 24 hours, in the highest daily toll since mid-October.

The ministry's data also showed that 312 deaths from the virus were recorded, bringing the daily death toll to the highest level since Christmas.

The authorities of the western state of Maharashtra imposed a night curfew today, to meet a record high number of injuries, as Mumbai, the financial capital of India, recorded 6,123 new injuries.

"We are seeing a higher rate of Covid cases in high-rise apartment buildings compared to slums, and to prevent the spread, only essential services will be allowed," Mumbai Mayor Kishore Bidnikar said.

And questions began to surface in India about the government's vaccination export campaign, as it provided 61 million vaccine doses to as many as 77 countries in the form of grants and trade deals, while only a small number of the country's population received the vaccination.

At the global level, the total number of Coronavirus infections reached more than 126 million and 726 thousand, and the number of deaths exceeded two million and 777 thousand.

On the other hand, the number of daily infections with the Coronavirus in Saudi Arabia increased to more than 500 for the first time since last October, and the Ministry of Health said that the reason for this is due to the increase in gatherings, and the laxity in compliance with preventive measures.

The total number of people infected with the virus in Saudi Arabia increased to more than 387,000, of whom 6,643 died.

In turn, the Egyptian Ministry of Health said yesterday, Saturday, that it had recorded 683 cases and 41 deaths from the Corona virus, bringing the total to about 200,000 infections, and 11,845 deaths.

In Qatar, the Ministry of Health data shows that 639 new cases of Coronavirus were recorded, bringing the total number of infections to 14,580 cases, while no deaths from the virus were recorded recently.

The total number of vaccine doses administered in Qatar has reached more than 740,000.

Iraq remains at the top of the list of affected countries in the region, as the number of infections in it exceeds 827,000, after more than 5,000 new cases of the Coronavirus were recorded.

As for the total virus deaths in Iraq, it exceeds 14,000.

Sporadic regions

On the other hand, Brazil alone recorded, within 24 hours, about 86 thousand new cases of Coronavirus, bringing the total to about 12.5 million cases.

As for the United States - which tops the list of affected countries in the world - it recorded about 60,000 new cases of the virus, bringing the total to more than 30 million and 239 thousand.

Today, Sunday, Russia announced the registration of 9,088 new cases of the Coronavirus, including 1878 cases in the capital, Moscow, bringing the total nationwide to 4.5 million cases.

The authorities stated that 336 deaths were recorded during the past 24 hours, which raised the official number of deaths in Corona in Russia to 97,740 cases.

Today, Sunday, the data of the Robert Koch Institute showed that the number of Coronavirus infections in Germany rose to two million and 772 thousand cases, after more than 17 thousand new infections were recorded, and the number of deaths increased to 75,870 after recording 90 new deaths.

The chief of staff of the German chancellery’s office, Helge Braun, said that the government should strive to reduce the rate of infection spread in the next few weeks or else it would risk the emergence of new vaccine-resistant strains.

In South Africa, Health Minister Zwaili Mkhize said that the government plans to vaccinate 200,000 people a day, starting in mid-May.

The government has set up 2,000 vaccination centers, but the lack of doses threatens South Africa’s plans to vaccinate two-thirds of its citizens this year, even though it is scheduled to receive 2.8 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine by the end of next month.
