Photographer Christopher Matthews posted a photo, on his Facebook account, documenting the appearance of the aurora above Fagrad volcano, the erupting spate in Iceland.

The image showed the distinctive green color of the aurora above the fiery red color mixed with smoke, as a result of the massive eruption of the volcano in the past days.

"Iceland definitely knows how to have a birthday party," Matthews wrote in a post, referring to his celebration of his birthday in conjunction with the eruption.

The image was widely popular on social media platforms, as users praised the beauty of the image, and the way it was captured, praising it as a painting rather than a photo taken with a camera.

Incredible shot of the #Aurora illuminating the sky above an erupting volcano in #Iceland.

Christopher Mathews took this photo and shared this fun fact with me: "I took the photo after midnight on my birthday. Not a bad start to the day!"

I could not agree more!

He also posted another picture of him carrying a plate with a piece of cake, and behind him is the Fagrad volcano, and he commented on it, saying, "I think it was a mistake to try to light all the candles at once."
