Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin's Governing Mayor Michael Müller has defended the Senate's decision not to implement the agreements between the federal and state governments on the so-called emergency brake one-to-one.

“The easiest way is complete lockdown.

I cannot rule out whether it will be necessary in the next few weeks or months, ”said Müller on Saturday evening after a special session of the Senate.

“And there would have been a second, easy way, as is written down in the MPK resolution what can be an emergency brake.

And you do that one to one, ”said the SPD politician.

"So the retail trade is closed again and youth sports, and then let's see if that works."

The Berlin Senate could have gone the same way, said Müller, but decided differently.

"There is no one silver bullet, and there is no one measure that solves every problem, but rather it is a weighing process," said the governing mayor, who is also chairman of the conference of prime ministers (MPK).

"We believe that in this weighing process with this mix of measures and the shift in emphasis in the direction of testing, we are treading a new path, but a very responsible one that can also protect many people."

Among other things, Müller announced that a negative corona test would be a prerequisite for shopping in stores in Berlin from the middle of next week.

This also applies to visits to the hairdresser and museums, but not to supermarkets, pharmacies or drug stores.

In addition, the rules for companies are to be tightened.

In future, you will have to enable your employees to have a corona test twice a week.

A home office obligation is also resolved, according to which you have to offer 50 percent of your office workplaces in the home office.

«I can't promise whether we did it one hundred percent today.

There will certainly be more injustices », admitted Müller.

With its decision not to simply implement the emergency brake regulation, the Berlin Senate did what was expected of politics: to take advice seriously and to take the experiences of the past year seriously.
