Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Greens around Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann have ended the exploration and want to soon determine their partners for coalition negotiations.

"We try to get the decision before Easter," said Kretschmann on Saturday evening after the third round of explorations in Stuttgart.

However, the 72-year-old head of government left it open whether the current coalition partner CDU or SPD and FDP have better cards with their efforts to establish a traffic light alliance.

Kretschmann announced that the green negotiating group would meet next Wednesday and evaluate the talks.

Then the team, which includes state chairmen Sandra Detzer and Oliver Hildenbrand as well as parliamentary group leader Andreas Schwarz in addition to Kretschmann, has to give a recommendation to the state board and then a decision is made there.

All three possible partners are very interested in working together, said the head of government.

On Saturday, the Greens met for the first time with the SPD and FDP for a round of three in the House of Architects in Stuttgart.

After the three-hour conversation, social democrats and liberals were optimistic that a joint coalition with the eco party would work.

Later in the afternoon, the CDU was again concerned with the chances of a new edition of Green-Black.

In the state elections two weeks ago, the Greens had clearly defeated the Union.

The team around the country chief and interior minister Thomas Strobl stuck to its strategy of not commenting on the talks.

Kretschmann had asked the CDU, SPD and FDP to remain silent about the content of the meeting.

However, the Greens, SPD and FDP give at least some hint of information about their view of things.

In the evening Kretschmann and Strobl came out of the door of the house of architects together, but the CDU politician declared: "We are not allowed to say anything."

Then Kretschmann, who turned to the journalists: "A little bit."

Strobl responded with: "You do that" and left the place of negotiation.

At lunchtime, SPD country chief Andreas Stoch had declared that there were "similarities" between the three potential traffic light partners on many topics.

It is becoming apparent that the three parties could bring their core brands together to form a whole.

Intensive discussions had been held on a common idea for such a coalition, which would have to send a “signal of departure”.

"We have the feeling that the whole thing is heading for the home straight," said Stoch.

The FDP leaders shared the same horn.

Country chief Michael Theurer said the atmosphere in the first three-way conversation was very positive.

Group leader Hans-Ulrich Rülke, who had previously often criticized the Greens and the SPD, said it was now clear that such a coalition “could not fail due to atmospheric disturbances”.

Both said they could make a proposal at the beginning of the week, if the Greens made a decision.

Theurer said: "It won't be easy, but we would dare."

In terms of content, there is nothing that would speak against an alliance: "Bridges have been found everywhere," said Rülke.

The SPD agreed that the Greens want to make their decision next week.

"We are ready now," said Stoch.

The SPD wants the social not to fall by the wayside in all plans for more climate protection.

Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Environment Ministry, said that all climate protection plans must also be socially responsible.

"It is very important to us that we keep jobs."

The CDU social wing warned the Greens not to involve the Liberals in a government.

"The FDP in Baden-Württemberg has repeatedly positioned itself as an AfD light in recent years: Against refugees, against climate protection and the lockdown," said Christian Bäumler, head of the Christian Democratic Workforce, the German Press Agency in Stuttgart.

"In the state government, the FDP would have practically a veto right against all Corona measures."

That would be "fatal".

The liberals have long been calling for the month-long lockdown to be lifted and for trade to be opened up across the board.

Bäumler, who is also a member of the CDU state executive, said with a view to the SPD involved in the traffic light talks: "For employees, participation in the government of the FDP would mean five years of stagnation."

Almost exactly half a year before the federal election, Kretschmann said it was not just about content, but also about strategic considerations.

After the Union lost a lot in surveys because of the mask affair and the criticism of the corona management, surveys show that a green-led traffic light would also have a majority at the federal level.

Theurer said, however, that a traffic light at the state level need not be a “blueprint” for such a coalition at the federal level.
