Hanover (dpa / lni) - In Lower Saxony, the vaccination campaign in old people's and nursing homes is almost complete - as a result, there are far fewer Corona cases in the facilities.

While 336 homes had at least one Covid 19 disease in January, last week there were only 86. "A first important milestone in the protection of the group of highly vulnerable people has been reached," said Health Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD) on Friday in Hanover.

According to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), there were a total of 104 459 first vaccinations in 1473 facilities throughout Lower Saxony, and twice vaccinations were already carried out in 98 percent of the homes.

The number of residents who died from or with Sars-Cov-2 fell from 370 in January to 291 in February and so far 65 in March.

Behrens called on the operators to adapt the visiting rules: “Contact with the family is important for the elderly.

I therefore think it is possible to allow more visitors in the future, "said the minister.

The local health department should be involved.

Group offers could also be possible.
