Rostock (dpa / mv) - For alleged arson and attempted murder in five cases, a 34-year-old Güstrower has to answer before the Rostock regional court from April 8th.

According to the court on Friday, the public prosecutor's office accuses the defendant of opening a gas bottle in the stairwell of a Güstrow apartment building he also lives in one night in October 2020.

He ignited the gas bottle with a fuse in the exit area of the house while five people were sleeping inside, including two children.

The gas flame damaged the environment in the stairwell.

The defendant is said to have stored a large amount of explosive pyrotechnics in his apartment.

A massive fire and spreading to the apartments could only be prevented by striking smoke alarms and the rapid deployment of the fire brigade.

He is also said to have set fire to his girlfriend's gazebo in Güstrow with pyrotechnics in April 2019 and burned it down completely.

The motive for the crime is said to have been the defendant's annoyance that she did not allow him adequate contact with their daughter.
