Miami (AP) - The German tennis professional Jan-Lennard Struff has successfully started the tournament in Miami and has reached the third round.

After a bye at the start, the Warsteiner Ricardas Berankis from Lithuania defeated 6: 3, 6: 4.

Struff is number 31 in the tournament.

The Davis Cup player had trouble getting through his service games in the first set in the damp heat in Florida and only managed to take the 4-3 lead with a little luck.

Then the 30-year-old took the Berankis of the same age from his service and finished the first set a little later with an ace. Against the number 89 in the world, Struff immediately missed the next break and instead fell 3-0 down.

But Berankis made too many mistakes in spite of all the considerable resistance, so that Struff managed the turnaround in the set and won after 1:39 hours.

Yannick Hanfmann and Alexander Zverev also played their second round matches for the men on Friday.

Number three seeded Zverev, who last won the ATP tournament in Acapulco, also had a bye in Miami in the first round.
