Berlin (dpa / bb) - The Eisbären Berlin can continue to rely on their home strength in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

On Friday evening, the capital city won against ERC Ingolstadt 1-0 (1-0, 0-0, 0-0).

Two days earlier, the leaders of the Nordgruppe had lost their away game at Oberbayern 3: 4.

The Berlin team owed their hard-fought success to the goal of Ryan McKiernan and their goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger, who celebrated his fourth shutout of the current season.

In front of empty stands in the arena at Ostbahnhof, the hosts start well: Defender McKiernan gave the early lead with a powerful long-range shot, after which the Berliners had further clear chances.

With their physical style of play, the guests caused increasing difficulties for the polar bears.

Sometimes overly tough duels and many personal skirmishes now shaped the heated encounter.

The home side only found their way back into the game in the final third, but did not know how to use their chances to score.

So they had to fear for their twelfth win in the 14th home game of the season until the end.

But Niederberger managed to parry all of the Ingolstadt's shots.
