It was revealed that a lake in Bolivia was covered with household waste such as plastic bottles.

The Associated Press reported on the 25th (local time) that a portion of Lake Ururu, near Oruro, Bolivia, is covered with garbage such as plastic bottles and wastewater from nearby mines.

Uruuru Lake is a lake with an area of 214 km2 located at an altitude of 3,686 m above sea level.

Wikipedia described the lake as "a tourist destination famous for boating and fishing because of its large number of fish."

However, the lake in the photos and videos released by AP shows that you can't get on a boat or go fishing.

The drought-dried lake floor and the shallow lake water are covered with garbage.

The Bolivian press has described the lake as a'plastic sea'.

An official from a local environmental group explained that this garbage is household waste from the nearby city of Oruro and came to Lake Ururu through the Tagarate River.

In addition, heavy metals such as cadmium, zinc and arsenic from nearby San Jose mines contaminated the lake.

Vicente Ramos, a nearby resident, told AP, "I used to be able to fish and do everything here. There were birds, but now they are polluted and the birds are dying."

Mayor David Choke Oruro has said he will clean the area so that it can show a different view of the lake.
