Bonn (dpa / lnw) - The district court in Bonn has sentenced a 23-year-old to a fine of 3900 euros for several jaunts with someone else's license plate.

The mechatronics technician was charged with fivefold deception, falsification of documents, driving without a driver's license and violating the compulsory insurance law in the judgment on Friday.

The defendant, who had bought an old convertible for 1,500 euros but did not have a driver's license, had repeatedly used someone else's license plates in the underground car park of an apartment building.

For jaunts into the city or into the country, he unscrewed license plates from parked cars.

At the end of his tours - sometimes a day, sometimes longer - he properly reassembled the license plates.

The owners of the cars had reported the theft, but were surprised that their signs were suddenly screwed back on.

Finally, the injured party noticed the blue convertible, which was mostly parked in the underground car park without a license plate.

If it wasn't on the square, license plates were again missing.

So there seemed to be a connection.
