China News Service, March 26. According to Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao report on the 26th, the Anti-Terrorism Unit of the Political Department of the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters in Malaysia defeated an “independent party” against politicians such as former Prime Minister Mahathir and former Finance Minister Lim Guanying in 2020. The "wolf" terrorist attack conspired and arrested a man associated with the "Islamic State" organization.

Azman, Assistant Director of the Counter-Terrorism Section of the Political Department of the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, pointed out on the 25th that the counter-terrorism police arrested a man before the movement control order (management order) was implemented in March 2020.

The man admitted that he planned to launch a "lone wolf" attack in an attempt to assassinate Mahathir, Lim Guanying, former Attorney General Tommy Thomas, and former Minister of the Prime Minister's Department Mugahi Mugahi, who is in charge of religious affairs.

Azman pointed out that in early January 2020, the police arrested seven terrorist suspects involved in producing videos promoting the "Islamic State" and issuing death threats to national leaders.

He said that one of the suspects confessed that he was planning to assassinate Mahathir, Lim Guanying and others with a knife.

In response to terrorist attacks in Malaysia, Azman pointed out that in the past two to three years, the number of terrorists arrested by the police has shown a downward trend, indicating that the situation has been brought under control.

He said that in 2019, the police launched dozens of raids and arrests against terrorists. Compared with the 109 operations in the previous year, the number was significantly reduced.

In terms of the number of arrests, the counter-terrorism group arrested 119 and 72 people in 2018 and 2019 respectively, and the number dropped sharply to seven in 2020, including the men who planned to assassinate Mahathir.

He pointed out that as the leader of the "Islamic State" Baghdadi and several Malaysian terrorists active in Syria were killed one after another, those who supported the "Islamic State" lost their motivation and passion, so terrorist activities were gradually reduced.

But he reminded that this does not mean that the region is free from the threat of terrorism, and all parties must still be vigilant.
