Berlin (dpa) - The CDU chief and North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Armin Laschet urges caution with regard to the Saarland's easing plans.

"You have to be careful there too, because the Brazilian variant, which is even more dangerous, is right across the border in France," said Laschet on Friday on the Phoenix TV channel.

The Saarland wants to loosen the corona measures to a large extent after Easter: From Tuesday after Easter, cinemas, theaters, fitness studios and outdoor restaurants, among other things, are to reopen.

Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) announced on Thursday that the prerequisite is a negative rapid test.

That had caused some sharp criticism.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) had pointed out that Saarland would receive 80,000 additional doses of vaccine because there was the South African mutation there.

"How are other countries supposed to explain to their citizens that they are not receiving any additional vaccine and cannot take these opening steps?" She asked.

Laschet also said: "You can advance testing by having certain facilities for which the test is a prerequisite."

And: "If you then know that I can go to location A or B, but need a test, then you also go to the test."

He also pleaded for more action and less announcement in the Corona policy in order to strengthen the confidence of the population again.

"We have to stop making new announcements, promises what will come when, but you just have to do it."

Vaccination is central.
