Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) in Saarbrücken, the mood in the Saar economy has brightened further.

The IHK announced this on Friday with reference to reports from companies about their current business situation and the prospects for the next six months.

For example, the IHK expectation indicator has reached its best value since May 2018 with a jump of 4.9 points to now 8.8 points, it said.

This is due to increasing incoming orders in the manufacturing sector as well as hopes in the retail sector to be able to get started again.

"Although the pre-crisis level has still not been reached," said IHK managing director Frank Thomé according to a statement.

"But the reports from companies make us confident that the Saar economy will continue to stabilize."

Much depends on the containment of the corona infection process.

“The basis for this is an intelligent mix of effect-oriented measures consisting of high-frequency testing, a rapid increase in vaccination rates and digital contact tracking.

More speed with digitization in the Saarland health authorities is therefore essential, ”he said.

According to this, around 300 companies with around 100,000 employees took part in the March survey by the Saarland Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Overall, 35 percent of the companies surveyed currently rate their business situation as good, 45 percent as satisfactory and 20 percent as bad.

Business is particularly good in the electrical industry, in medical technology and, to a lesser extent, in parts of the automotive industry.

The Chamber of Commerce believes that the upswing should gradually pick up speed in the next six months.

19 percent of companies expect better, 71 percent the same and 10 percent worse business.
