Xinhua News Agency, Taipei, March 25 (Reporters Wu Jihai and Fu Shuangqi) The landmark Grand Hotel in Taipei held a press conference on the 25th to announce the official opening of the 50-year-old Dongmi Road.

So far, the emergency escape route specially planned for Chiang Kai-shek by the Grand Hotel in the past is fully presented to the world.

The Grand Hotel stands on Jiantan Mountain. It is well-known both at home and abroad for its unique Chinese palace-style architecture. It is a favorite hotel for many mainland tourists.

According to the hotel, when the 14-story palace-style main building was built in 1970, an escape route was planned on the east and west sides of the main building, which was an emergency escape route specially planned for Chiang Kai-shek.

The west secret road was fully opened in September 2019, attracting 50,000 people to visit in three months, and the number of visitors in 2020 will reach 170,000.

Dongmi Road winds down from the left side of the hotel.

Following the guided tour from the Grand Hotel, the reporter saw that the 67-meter-long East Mi Road with 84 steps was as winding and winding as the West Mi Road.

According to reports, this design is to avoid chasing soldiers and straight forward bullets; at the same time, in addition to reinforced concrete, the dense road has uneven walls to enhance the sound absorption effect, even if there are chasing soldiers behind, it is not easy to locate.

There are also 43 explosion-proof lights in the secret tunnel. In the event of a burst, the debris will not splash and cause secondary damage.

Walking outside from Dongmi Road, you will come to a renovated "Secret Garden" where the hotel planted hydrangea and other landscape flowers and erected art installations for tourists to take pictures.

Passing through the "Secret Garden" and up the steps, you will arrive at the former residence of Kong Lingwei, the first general manager of The Grand Hotel. Kong Lingwei, known as Miss Kong Er, is Song Meiling's eldest sister Song Ailing and Kong Xiangxi's second daughter.

The former residence exhibits items used by Kong Lingwei during his lifetime and important cultural relics in the hotel.

The Grand Hotel said that the service capacity of Dongmi Road is limited, and it will cooperate with the hotel's wedding banquet, Dongmi Road housing project and other phased open guided tours, hoping to bring more passengers to the hotel.
