Augsburg (AP) - Three baby squirrels tumbled out of their nest in Augsburg and kept the fire brigade on their toes.

When the emergency services tried to lure them back, the young animals would have preferred to play them, said the Augsburg fire brigade on Thursday.

"People only knew her from great heights and unfortunately they didn't even know interesting firefighters."

The babies were completely free of fear.

"After all, it was her first time on Mother Earth."

Since the squirrels on the ground would have been at the mercy of dogs and cats, the emergency services tried on Wednesday to get the trio back to the nest.

Animal rescue is anchored in the Bavarian Fire Brigade Act.

After several attempts had failed, the ladder was used and each squirrel was placed on a branch.

"There they literally slipped out of my hand and liked to climb towards the nest, to be safe."

None of the animals were injured when they hit the ground.

The fire department gave the babies names: Emilia, Emil and Eirik Eichhörnchen.
