Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The SPD expects three-party negotiations with the Greens and FDP to form a traffic light coalition soon.

"We assume that we will continue the talks very soon in three-way talks," said SPD party and parliamentary group leader Andreas Stoch on Thursday after more than two hours of negotiations with the Greens.

The next talks might already take place over the weekend.

So far, the Greens have spoken individually with the CDU, SPD and FDP.

The election winners can choose between a new edition of green-black and a traffic light coalition with the SPD and FDP.

Stoch drew a positive balance of the second exploratory round with the Greens.

The mood was very good.

"That also has to do with the people involved," he said.

There was also laughter.

In terms of content, it is about whether the framework of the similarities is sustainable.

"From my point of view, this is very positive."

At the same time, Stoch was calm.

"I don't feel any pressure at all," he said.

"If the similarities are not enough for a government, the SPD will pursue its political agenda from within the opposition."

When asked, Stoch also spoke about the financial possibilities of a new government in view of the mountain of debt accumulated in the pandemic.

The agenda doesn't just depend on money, he said.

He also assumes that the state budget will recover in the near future.

There is room for maneuver.

Regarding the non-contributory kindergarten, a core demand of the SPD, Stoch said: "These are details that we haven't discussed in depth today."
