Berlin (AP) - Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) has defended the planned opening steps for his state.

The aim is to offer an incentive for a corona test, "namely maybe to go out to eat ice cream in a marketplace or do sports in a club with a few people," said Hans on Thursday evening in the ARD "Tagesthemen".

With a particularly large number of tests, infected people are then to be discovered and quarantined, thus avoiding new infections.

On Thursday, Hans announced that the corona rules should be relaxed in Saarland after Easter.

From April 6th - the Tuesday after the holidays - cinemas, fitness studios and outdoor restaurants are to reopen.

The prerequisite is a daily negative rapid test.

In the “Tagesthemen”, Hans said that there is currently no exponential growth in the corona numbers in Saarland.

"But of course it is also clear: If exponential growth sets in in Saarland, then we must also question the model project again."
