Gütersloh (dpa / lsw) - In Baden-Württemberg only very few young people study without a high school diploma.

The number of people without a school leaving examination among the freshmen was only 1.4 percent in 2019, as the Center for University Development announced on Thursday in Gütersloh.

In the ranking of the countries, the southwest ranks next to last.

The city-state of Hamburg takes the top spot with a rate of 5.3 percent.

According to the announcement, around 64,000 students without an Abitur were enrolled at German universities in 2019.

This corresponds to a total share of 2.2 percent of the entire student body.

It is possible to study without a high school diploma for people who have qualified in their profession and have, for example, made a master in their craft.
