Papenburg (dpa / lni) - The cruise ship builder Meyer-Werft will work with reduced capacity for two weeks from Monday due to the high number of infections in and around Papenburg.

That was the result of discussions with the Emsland district and the health department, the shipyard announced on Thursday.

A general break in operation is not necessary.

On Tuesday there were reports that work at the shipyard would be suspended for two weeks.

"We are creating increased health protection and at the same time, with a further developed pandemic concept, can maintain our production to a reduced extent," said Jörg Heidelberg, who is responsible for production on the management board.

In Emsland and especially in Papenburg there is a "dynamic, diffuse infection process" that also affects the shipyard and associated companies, said District Administrator Marc-André Burgdorf.

It is therefore right to further reduce the number of employees on the shipyard site.

"What is decisive, however, is an even more closely-knit test system that the shipyard will set up in the short term," said the district administrator.

Due to a high infection rate, night exit restrictions have been in effect in Papenburg since March 18.

Meyer-Werft is the largest local employer.
