Military authorities are weighing the ballistic missiles and analyzing them.



CNN broadcast cited a senior US official and said the projectile was a ballistic missile, and the Japanese government also designated it as a ballistic missile.



The Japanese government says it has confirmed that the drop zone is outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.



Unlike cruise missiles launched by North Korea four days ago, ballistic missiles are the subject of a UN Security Council resolution, regardless of range.



The last time North Korea launched a ballistic missile was on March 29 last year in Wonsan, Gangwon-do, when it fired a super-sized missile.
