Peenemünde (dpa / mv) - Unknowns smeared two historic wagons on the grounds of the Historical-Technical Museum in Peenemünde (Vorpommern-Greifswald district) and caused about 40,000 euros in damage.

As a police spokeswoman said on Thursday, the graffiti was discovered and reported by staff at the facility in the morning.

The large lettering consists of several colors and has not yet been clearly assigned to the cause.

They damaged the original historical lettering and the paintwork of the wagons, among other things.

The museum is currently closed to visitors.

The museum in Peenemünde recalls the history of German missile technology from the 1920s to the year 2000. In the small, remote place in the north of the island of Usedom, military missiles were developed under the strictest secrecy during National Socialism, and later against Western European missiles during World War II Large cities were used.

For this purpose, concentration camp inmates were also used as forced laborers in Peenemünde.
